In 1988,

Geoffrey Ross published his first

collateral piece about

INFORMATION DESIGN.

 

 

Among his critical observations:

that Information Design at its highest

level of practice strives to be transparent;

it should provide a medium for the

presentation of concepts and data

absent superfluous decoration that

could obscue comprehension.

The element of Design should serve as

the Framework and provide a Cadence,

Orchestrate the flow of the Information.

 

There are many ways to communicate

ideas, but language, our shared convention

of abstractions which derive from our capacity

 for critical thinking, is fundamental.  It is

not only what we say, but also how we say it,

where we say it, and why we say it.

 

 

In so many instances, we must be acutely

cognizant that we are not merely feeding

communication, but rather trying to engage,

to provoke a reaction, to initiate a conversation.
